Semi-Truck Strikes I-135 Overpass Near State Street, Bringing Down Power Lines
A semi-truck pulling a dump trailer struck the Interstate 135 overpass near State Street on Thursday morning, bringing down power lines and prompting a road closure.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:26 a.m. on Oct. 8. The driver, a 42-year-old man from Culver, Kansas, had reportedly unloaded material and was returning to a construction site near Menards when the crash occurred.
According to the incident report, witnesses attempted to warn the driver, but the truck continued until the dump trailer struck the overpass. The driver was not injured.
The collision caused power lines approximately 527 feet east of the scene to come down. State Street was closed, and traffic was redirected while crews responded and authorities managed the scene.
Palmer Towing removed the semi-truck, and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control and the investigation.
The driver received citations for driving with a suspended license, failing to update his address, and violating a corrective-lens restriction.
The accident remained under investigation.
