Prairie Paws Contract Expected at Next Commission Meeting; Shelter Transition Remains on Track
Salina City Manager Jacob Wood said Monday that negotiations with Prairie Paws to take over animal shelter operations are progressing, with a contract expected to return to the City Commission at its next meeting. The city still anticipates the organization taking over in late November or early December.
Wood provided the update during the commission’s other business discussion after concerns were raised involving the animal shelter employee case and the proposed Prairie Paws contract. He said staff had hoped to bring the agreement forward Monday but needed additional time to finalize details.
“There’s nothing monumental or groundbreaking,” Wood said. “Just trying to work through some of those details.”
Wood said the remaining contract work is not expected to delay the transition, and the city continues working toward the anticipated takeover timeline.
