Salina City Commission Approves Hotel Zoning and Final Plat at 3135 S. 9th Street

The Salina City Commission on October 12 approved zoning and a final plat that clear the way for a Home2 Suites hotel at 3135 S. 9th Street.

Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve Ordinance No. 26-11304, which amends the planned commercial zoning on a portion of the Auburndale Addition and approves the site development plan for the hotel on Lot 5, subject to seven conditions recommended by the Planning Commission. The ordinance includes two variations for Lot 5: a maximum building height of 60 feet, up from the 40 feet allowed under the 2010 zoning, and a change to front-yard landscaping requirements. The Planning Commission had recommended approval 6-0.

The commission then voted 4-0 to approve the final plat of the Auburndale District Addition, a six-lot replat of 9.19 acres on the east side of S. 9th Street, north of Avenue A, and to accept the easements dedicated on the plat. The mayor did not take part in either vote.

During discussion, a commissioner said the developer is receiving no economic incentives from the city for the project.
