Truck Damaged Stage Equipment During Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair Setup
A truck drove through a barricade during setup for the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair, taking out a stage panel and damaging a stage tent beyond repair, according to an Arts & Humanities staff report.
The report, included in the commission’s October 21 meeting packet, places the incident at approximately 6 a.m. while preparations were underway. Staff reported that no one was hurt and that the event continued.
The packet does not identify the driver or provide a damage estimate. It also does not state whether a police report was filed, whether insurance will cover the loss or how the equipment will be replaced.
Despite the damage, staff described the remainder of the Street Fair positively. Light sprinkles occurred during the parade, and staff observed that cooler weather appeared to encourage visitors to stay longer. The Wichita War Dancer performance was identified as a highlight.
A Street Fair recap is scheduled as a separate discussion item at the October 21 Arts & Humanities Commission meeting. No standalone recap document is attached, and the staff report does not provide a specific Street Fair attendance count or financial breakdown.
The commission meets at 4 p.m. at the Smoky Hill Museum, 211 W. Iron Avenue.
