County Treasurer Reports $96 Million in Property Taxes Levied, 2.2% Delinquency
Saline County Treasurer Anthony Newell presented the treasurer's annual report for tax year 2025, delivered in accordance with state statute.
Newell reported that, as of October 1, 2026, the county had $10 million invested in various instruments and non-investment bank accounts totaling $45,864,700. Total funds managed by the treasurer's office as of October 1 were reported as approximately $55.9 million.
The county clerk's office certified $96,083,118.65 in total property taxes levied for 2025, according to the report. Property tax statements were mailed in November 2025, with the first half due December 22 and the second half due May 11.
Newell said total tax collected against the balanced tax roll as of October 1, 2026 was $93,099,351.80, leaving total unpaid property tax of about $2.07 million, a delinquency rate of 2.2%. He noted that figure is "up slightly versus previous years but not out of historical standards."
Commissioners also discussed the treasurer's office appointment system for vehicle tags and titles. Newell said appointments are encouraged but not required for most services, though they are required for commercial transactions. He said title appointments generally fluctuate from a week and a half to two weeks out due to demand and the additional research required, while simpler renewals may be available the same day.
