SALINA, Kan. — Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and Salina families have several organized trick-or-treat events to choose from, starting this weekend.

Salina Parks and Recreation's free Community Halloween Party runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Salina Fieldhouse, 140 N. Fifth St. It includes trick-or-treating with local businesses, carnival games, bounce houses, face painting, a photo booth and crafts, according to the city.

Events confirmed for 2026 so far include:

  • Friday, Oct. 30: Sacred Heart Cathedral Trunk or Treat, 4:30-6 p.m., Old Grade School parking lot, 118 N. Ninth St. Organizers say it is free and open to the public, with free hot dogs and candy.
  • Saturday, Oct. 31: First Covenant Church Trunk or Treat, 6-7:30 p.m., church parking lot, with candy and popcorn, according to the church's event listing.

Other community events that have taken place in past years, including downtown trick-or-treating, Central Mall trick-or-treating and the Salina Police Department's "Cops and Costumes," had not announced 2026 times as of Oct. 18. Salina311 will update this list as organizers confirm. Organizers can submit events to the Salina311 events calendar.

Halloween safety

With trick-or-treating on a weekend this year, more children may be out in daylight and after dark. Safety tips commonly recommended by public-safety agencies include:

  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick and add reflective tape to costumes and bags.
  • Choose face paint over masks that limit vision.
  • Cross at corners and crosswalks, and walk on sidewalks when available.
  • Drivers should slow down in neighborhoods and watch for children between parked cars.
  • Check treats before children eat them and throw away anything unwrapped or tampered with.

Clocks fall back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, the morning after Halloween.
