Emergency crews responded to several reported natural gas leaks across Salina on Thursday evening, Oct. 29. The Salina Police Department told Salina311 that pressure valves were venting gas at multiple locations.
Kansas Gas Service crews responded, according to police. Police said the gas company advised it did not suspect any criminal tampering.
Police said crews evacuated 2130 E. Crawford St. The people evacuated were workers at the apartment complex there. Police said the complex has no current residents.
As of Thursday evening, all of the leaks had been mitigated, and police said there is no danger to the public.
Starting around 6 p.m., fire, police and gas crews worked calls at East Crawford Street and South Marymount Road, at Crawford and Fourth streets, at North Ohio and East North streets, and near the Ash Street animal shelter. Some streets were closed and traffic was diverted while crews worked.
Police said they will follow up on the incident Friday morning. It was not immediately clear what caused the valves to vent or whether customers lost gas service. Salina311 reached out to Kansas Gas Service for information.
