Salina Symphony Opens 70th Season with Multi-Media Space-Themed Concert
The Salina Symphony will begin its 70th anniversary season with a multi-media performance on Sunday, October 5, at 4 p.m. at the Stiefel Theatre.
The program will open with Gustav Holst's "The Planets," accompanied by projections created by artist Camilla Tassi. The visual elements will include imagery from the Boom! Salina Street Art & Mural Festival.
After intermission, the orchestra will perform Daniel Slatkin's "Voyager 130." The concert will conclude with three themes from John Williams' Star Wars scores: "Imperial March," "Duel of the Fates," and "Main Title."
"This program offers a rare opportunity to experience the grandeur of Holst's The Planets alongside the iconic scores of Star Wars," said Yaniv Segal, the symphony's music director. "Enhanced by striking visual elements, the performance invites audiences to explore the intersection of music, outer space, and cinematic storytelling on a truly cosmic scale."
The orchestra will perform with the Kansas Wesleyan University Philharmonic Choir and student ensembles from Salina Central, Salina South, and Southeast of Saline High Schools.
The performance is funded in part by the Horizons Grants Program of the Salina Arts and Humanities Foundation, with support from Horizons, a private donor group.
