Salina Police Receive Autopsy Results in Infant Death Investigation
The Salina Police Department has received autopsy results in the death of a 7-week-old male infant that occurred in late July, marking a significant development in a case that had been on hold for three months.
Police confirmed Monday that autopsy findings arrived last week from the Kansas City medical examiner, prompting investigators to resume active work on the case. The department has now assigned one investigator to work full-time on the matter as they analyze the medical findings and gather additional evidence.
The infant died around July 28th under circumstances that initially prompted a police investigation. The case was subsequently placed on hold while authorities awaited the complete forensic pathologist report to determine both the cause and manner of death.
To assist with the investigation, police are now consulting with a medical expert from Wichita. Officials indicated they are coordinating with additional agencies and have identified all parties involved in the case, though no arrests have been made at this time.
The department had previously stated that the cause of death was unclear, making the case difficult to proceed without medical examiner conclusions. Investigators emphasized their reliance on medical professionals to determine what occurred.
Police stated that a media release will be issued at a later date as the investigation continues to progress. The department has not yet disclosed the specific findings from the autopsy report or what investigative steps will follow based on those results.
