Salina Man Injured in I-70 Rear-End Collision Near Niles Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred Sunday around 6:02 p.m. on eastbound I-70 near the Niles Road exit. The collision involved a black 2014 Ford Fusion driven by 21-year-old Lucas Burleson of Abilene and a gray 2009 Ford Escape driven by 56-year-old Theresa Bishop of Salina.

According to authorities, Burleson rear-ended Bishop’s vehicle, causing his car to leave the roadway and catch fire. Rural Fire District 5 responded and extinguished the small grass fire. Burleson was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with a leg injury.

No passengers were reported in either vehicle. Burleson was cited for following too closely and unsafe speed. Police continue to investigate the accident.
