Salina Fire Department Highlights Carbon Monoxide Safety During Awareness Month
The Salina Fire Department is reminding residents about the dangers of carbon monoxide during Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month.
Carbon monoxide, described as invisible, odorless, and deadly, claims hundreds of lives annually and results in thousands of emergency room visits, according to the department.
Fire officials recommend several safety measures including installing carbon monoxide detectors on every level of homes, particularly near sleeping areas, regularly checking and replacing detector batteries, and scheduling annual maintenance for fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, fireplaces, and water heaters.
Additionally, the department warns against running vehicles or generators in enclosed spaces like garages and emphasizes the importance of proper ventilation in all areas where combustion occurs.
