County Switches from KCAMP to Commercial Insurance, Saving $125,000 in Premiums
Saline County has secured commercial insurance coverage for 2026, resulting in premium savings of over $125,000 compared to its previous coverage through KCAMP (Kansas County Association Multiline Pool).
County Administrator Philip Smith-Haines informed commissioners that the county has procured insurance using a combination of four firms: Travelers, Chubb, Iron Insurance Partners, and Lloyd's of London.
The new coverage will provide the same scope of protection as the county's previous KCAMP membership.
"It is a savings in terms of premium cost of over $125,000," Smith-Haines told commissioners during their meeting.
The county had previously taken formal action to cancel its KCAMP membership with the intention of returning to commercial insurance markets.
While the commercial insurance companies did not require formal commission approval, Smith-Haines presented the information to commissioners to keep them informed about the $575,711 expenditure.
Smith-Haines noted that while the coverage field remains the same, there will be differences in deductibles and some coverage limitations compared to the KCAMP plan.
The change follows a study session and subsequent commission action to cancel the county's KCAMP membership.
