Saline County Commissioners Back State Legislation on Vehicle Registration, Library Systems
Saline County commissioners have signed support letters for two pieces of state legislation during recent county business, according to County Administrator Philip Smith-Hanes.
The commissioners backed Senate Bill 404, which deals with motor vehicle registration issues, and House Bill 2410, which would allow libraries to withdraw from regional library systems.
Smith-Hanes told commissioners during Monday's meeting that County Chair signed the support letters after consultation with relevant county departments. County Treasurer Newell A drafted the letter supporting Senate Bill 404, which addresses motor vehicle registration procedures.
House Bill 2410 has drawn attention statewide as it would give individual libraries more flexibility to leave regional library cooperative arrangements. The bill has sparked debate over local control versus regional coordination of library services.
The support letters represent the county's official position on the legislation as lawmakers consider the measures in Topeka.
