Teen Remains in Juvenile Detention After Feb. 5 Hearing in Salina Fatal Shooting Case
Court reviews detention status Feb. 5 in juvenile murder case; teen remains held
SALINA – A detention status review hearing was held Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, in a Saline County juvenile felony case involving a 15-year-old charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy earlier this month in south Salina.
According to the Saline County Attorney’s Office, the teen remains in juvenile detention. Officials also said there has been no discussion at this time of prosecuting the case in adult court.

Background
The Saline County Attorney’s Office formally charged the teen in connection with a shooting at a private single-family residence in the 100 block of Raleigh Street.
Prosecutors said the victim, a 14-year-old boy, was transported to a hospital in Wichita, where he later died from his injuries.
According to a release issued Jan. 6, 2026, the teen has been charged with:
Second-degree murder (reckless)
Criminal use of a weapon
Possession of marijuana
Possession of a hallucinogenic drug
Possession of drug paraphernalia
The County Attorney’s Office also confirmed an attorney and a guardian ad litem have been appointed to represent the teen, who remains in custody.
The teen’s initial court appearance was held Jan. 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. The case continues in juvenile court, with additional hearings expected as it moves forward.
