City Sets March 23 Show Cause Hearing for Former Ambassador Hotel Property
The City of Salina has scheduled a show cause hearing regarding the structure located at 1616 West Crawford Street, the former Ambassador Hotel property.
According to official notice issued under City of Salina Resolution No. 26-8334, the hearing will take place at 4:00 p.m., Monday, March 23, 2026, during the regular meeting of the Salina City Commission. The meeting will be held in Room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash Street.
Why the hearing is happening
Under the resolution, the property was declared a dangerous structure, and the owner was required to take action by February 13, 2026.
The notice states the owner failed to comply with one of two required paths:
Demolition Work: Immediately engage necessary consultants and contractors and submit complete demolition permit applications suitable for review by the building official;
or
Repair Work: Immediately engage necessary consultants and contractors and submit complete repair permit applications suitable for review by the building official.
Because those steps were not completed by the deadline outlined in the resolution, the Building Official requested that the matter be placed on the Commission agenda.
What happens next
At the March 23 hearing, the property owner must appear and show cause as to why the City should not proceed with repairing or razing the structure and recovering the costs under K.S.A. 12-1755.
If the Governing Body determines the owner has failed to comply, the City may move forward with demolition or repairs and later assess the cost against the property.
Background
The 1616 W. Crawford property has been the subject of prior public discussion due to its condition and status as a long-vacant structure. The March 23 hearing represents the next formal step in the enforcement process under the adopted resolution.
