Solomon Wrestling Building Momentum in Year Three With Growing State Presence
In just its third year of existence, the Solomon School District USD 393 high school wrestling program is already making its mark. Established in November 2023, the program—led by Head Coach Jacob Johansen and Assistant Coach Austin Hardin—has experienced steady growth and meaningful success in a short period of time.
After sending three athletes to the Kansas 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament in Hays during the 2024 season, Solomon built on that achievement this year by qualifying four wrestlers for the same prestigious event—two of whom were returning state qualifiers. Competing at the state level is no small accomplishment, particularly for a young program still developing its foundation.
Although the Gorillas have not yet brought home a state medal, coaches and supporters alike view the progress as a significant milestone. With several athletes new to the sport and the program still in its early stages, simply earning state berths speaks volumes about the dedication, work ethic, and commitment of the team.
The program also carries strong Saline County ties, with multiple members of the team and coaching staff coming from Saline County.
Looking ahead, excitement continues to build. Supporters hope to see the purchase of a branded wrestling mat, allowing Solomon to host home competitions and further strengthen school pride. Supporters of the program are also anxious for the development of a middle school program, which would create a vital pipeline for future high school athletes and ensure long-term sustainability.
With continued community support, expanding opportunities, and a strong coaching foundation, Solomon Wrestling’s future is bright—and the momentum is only just beginning.
