Wayne Norman Announces Candidacy for Saline County Commission, District 5

Below is his announcement letter:

First off, I am not a politician, but I am a fighter for what is right. I am a people’s man, a servant to the people, and I fight for what I believe in and what’s right for the people. I will represent all citizens in the 5th District. Whether they live in the city or the country, I will represent equally.

In every job I have ever worked in, I have served the public, from Elmore Dairy in high school, Ozark Airlines in St. Louis and Tulsa, the electronic field for the 3M Company and Business Telecommunication Systems, with the Saline County Fire Department #5, especially during my 34 years in law enforcement with the Salina Police Department and the Saline County Sheriff’s Office, and now the armored car industry, first owning and operating Norman’s Armored Car Service for 14 years and now with GardaWorld, as branch owner/manager. I am here for the citizens of Saline County and the State of Kansas.

While with the Salina Police Department, I started the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program with USD 305 and taught the D.A.R.E. grade school curriculum for 8 years, teaching in all the USD 305 grade schools in both semesters. Every summer, we conducted a D.A.R.E. camp at Camp Webster for 5th and 6th grade students and used high school students as counselors.

My wife and I started Boy Scout Cub Pack 7 and Troop 7 when we attended First Nazarene Church. Out of our first group of boys, we had 4 become Eagle Scouts, an unprecedented number. I was also on the board of the Boy Scouts of America for nearly 10 years.

I was a Special Olympics basketball coach from 1986 through 1999 and served on the board of the Saline County ARC Blue Thunder team. I have been president of the Salina Amateur Radio Club; treasurer, vice president, and president of the Kansas D.A.R.E. Officers Association. I was president of the local Blue Knights Motorcycle Chapter, a member of Saline County Fire District #5 for several years before becoming a law enforcement officer.

I have served on numerous boards in our church, eventually becoming chairman of the board that I was on. I am dedicated to my God, my wife and family, my church, and my community.

I do not adhere to any group or corporation, but to the people that I serve. I will represent with the highest determination and integrity for the people of this county.
