What $4 Buys on Food Row at the Smoky Hill River Festival

This is the first in a series of food stories ahead of the Smoky Hill River Festival, starting with one of the most practical questions for festivalgoers: what can you actually eat for $4 on Food Row?

The official Smoky Hill River Festival food page lists more than 30 vendors, with menus ranging from barbecue and Cajun food to tacos, ice cream, noodles, kettle corn, Greek food and festival staples.

For this first review, only menu items listed at exactly $4.00 were included. Drink items were left out, because this story is focused on food, not paying four dollars to temporarily defeat thirst. Humanity has suffered enough.

The $4 food options are not all the same kind of item. Some are samples, such as Bourbon Chicken Sample, Fried Pickles - Sample, Ice Cream Sampler - Any Flavor and Sampler Nachos. Others are smaller portions, sides, sweets or kid-size options, including Cheesy Potatoes, Cowboy Beans, Fry Bread, Classic Mac - Kids, Fresh Fried Pork Rinds and Grilled Cheese Sandwich (no chips).

The list gives festivalgoers a lower-cost way to sample Food Row without committing to a full entrée at every stop. It also shows the difference between a small bite and a full meal. A $4 item may be enough for a quick snack, but most full entrées on the posted menus are listed at higher prices.
