For the week ending May 17, 2026, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 27% very short, 42% short, 30% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 26% very short, 40% short, 33% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 24% very poor, 34% poor, 27% fair, 14% good, and 1% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 93%, ahead of 82% last year, and well ahead of 72% for the five-year average. Coloring was 22%, ahead of 6% last year and 5% average.

Corn planted was 63%, behind 71% last year and 68% average. Emerged was 45%, behind 51% last year, but near 44% average.

Soybeans planted was 53%, near 54% last year, but ahead of 44% average. Emerged was 23%, equal to last year, and near 19% average.

Sorghum planted was 12%, equal to last year, and near 9% average.

Cotton planted was 45%, near 42% last year, and ahead of 38% average.

Sunflowers planted was 10%, ahead of 3% last year and 5% average.

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 15% very poor, 24% poor, 29% fair, 28% good, and 4% excellent.
