Memorial Day Guide: What’s Open, Closed and Running in Salina
Salina residents will see several schedule changes on Monday, May 25, as city offices, transportation services and other public facilities observe Memorial Day.
City offices closed
City of Salina offices will be closed Monday for the holiday. City staff will return to regular schedules on Tuesday, May 26.
Trash collection continues
City sanitation crews will maintain their regular collection schedule on Memorial Day. Residents with Monday pickup should place trash out as usual.
The Salina landfill will close early at 2 p.m. Monday. The Household Hazardous Waste facility, Salina Drive-thru Recycling Center and General Services office will be closed for the day.
Public transportation closed
OCCK Transportation will not operate Monday. That includes Paratransit vans and buses, Salina CityGo buses, 81 Connection, GoAbilene, GoConcordia, KanConnect and OCCK OnDemand vehicles. Services are scheduled to resume Tuesday, May 26.
Library closed
Salina Public Library will also be closed Monday for Memorial Day. The library’s calendar lists Memorial Day as an all-day closing.
County offices
Saline County lists Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, as a scheduled 2026 holiday for county employees.
Schools, banks and federal services
Memorial Day is a federal holiday, so many government offices, banks, courts and schools are closed. Postal and shipping services may also be limited or closed, and residents should check with individual businesses before making plans.
The holiday honors U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces. Normal local government and transportation schedules are expected to resume Tuesday.
