Sherilyn K. Adams

October 3, 1948 - May 20, 2026

Sherilyn K. Adams

Celebrating the Life of Sherilyn Adams October 3, 1948 – May 20, 2026

Sherilyn K. Adams , aged 77, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of deep Christian faith, boundless curiosity, and profound community impact.

Sherilyn was a devout Christian and member of the First Covenant Church, Salina, where she was inspired by fellowship in the women’s ministries. Her strong faith was reflected in her actions, with deep compassion and also being fiercely loyal to those she loved. This same vibrant spirit was also energized by the connections she built within the YMCA community.

Passionate about lifelong learning, Sherilyn earned both an MBA and a JD degree, balancing her sharp intellect with strong moral convictions to uplift others. One of her favorite Ben Franklin quotes was, "If a man empties his purse into his head, no one can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest." Living this out, she funded scholarships for college students, intentionally celebrating merit not on comparison, but on what they achieve with the gifts God gave them.

She lived a full and truly great life. Her inquisitive mind, sharp wit, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her true spirit. Survived by her husband of 56 years, John; son, Jonathan (Shawnee); daughters, Amy (Michael), and Laura; five grandchildren; sister, Karren; and nephew, Dennis (Denise).

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to an educational or Christian organizations.

Leon Eugene McGaha

December 8, 1940 - May 23, 2026

Leon Eugene McGaha

Leon Eugene McGaha, 85, of Valley Center, Kansas, passed away, Saturday, May 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, song, and a camera full of memories. Born December 8, 1940, in Albion, Illinois, Leon grew up in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and Newton, Kansas, before settling into a life defined by hard work and helping others. Leon was a fixture of the Teamsters Local 696, serving as Union Steward for over 20 years and remaining active with the retired Teamsters long after his 35-year career driving for Exide Batteries. Even in "retirement," Leon’s work ethic kept him busy for another decade. But it was his heart for people that truly set him apart. Whether he was hauling relief supplies to Katrina victims and Texas farmers, organizing Toys for Tots, or ensuring local families had Christmas dinner, Leon was always the first to volunteer. He was the kind of man who would stop his car to help a stranger push theirs or quietly cover the difference for someone short on change at the grocery store. When he wasn’t volunteering, Leon could be found at the Salina Speedway every Friday night he could manage. At family gatherings, he was always the one behind the lens, capturing every moment for those he loved. He will be forever remembered for his habit of breaking into random song lyrics and his signature response to any "I love you"—a quick and heartfelt, “I love you more.”

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Jerome and Rose Grace McGaha; his wife, Lois McGaha; his son, Michael McGaha; and seven siblings: Leonard Jerome Jr., Delores, Janice, Anita, Miles, Glen, and Bette. He is survived by his children, Matilda, Brittani, and Taren; his sister, Rita; his grandsons, Timothy and Tyler; and his great-grandchildren, Rae-lynn, Leon, Logan, and Owen.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford Street, Salina. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Heier Scott Mortuary and Cremations, 1920 East Crawford Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.
