Building Kansas Responds After AeroPlains Drainage Issue, Pushes Back on False Social Media Claims

Building Kansas LLC is providing an update following heavy rainfall that affected the AeroPlains area Thursday evening.

According to Building Kansas LLC, a significant amount of rain fell between approximately 5 and 7 p.m. During that time, the drain at the south end of Tim Rogers Road was not draining properly. The issue is believed to have been caused by a blockage where the drain discharges into the drainage ditch.

The City of Salina cleared the drain, and the water level dropped fairly quickly once the blockage was removed.

The city also brought a flood pump to the site, but once the drain began moving properly, the pump was not needed. It was left on site out of an abundance of caution.

Most importantly, Building Kansas LLC said the water remained in the street and did not reach any homes.

On Friday morning, Smoky Hill Construction was on site to review the drainage system it built. Representatives were joined by Jason Johnson of Campbell & Johnson Engineering, the firm that designed the drainage system.

While the current drainage system is believed to be more than adequate as long as the drainage path remains clear, Building Kansas LLC said it is already collaborating on a system upgrade to ensure that a similar issue does not happen again.

The company also addressed false and unverified information circulating on social media, including claims shared by some local influencers that homes had flooded, basements had flooded, or that the development was built on a floodplain. According to Building Kansas LLC, those claims are not accurate.

Building Kansas LLC said it will continue to operate transparently as the situation progresses and will take any necessary corrective measures.
