Southeast of Saline Falls to Silver Lake 4-0 in 3A State Softball Final

The Southeast of Saline Trojans fell short in their bid for a state championship Saturday, losing 4-0 to Silver Lake in the KSHSAA 3A State Softball title game.

Silver Lake drew first blood in the third inning when Paige Heiman's walk forced in a run. The Eagles maintained their slim 1-0 advantage until the sixth inning, when they broke the game open with three runs—one on a hit and two scored on stolen bases—to put the game out of reach.

Trojans pitcher Karlee Zurfluh battled through seven innings, surrendering six hits and four runs while striking out six. She faced constant pressure from Silver Lake's aggressive baserunning attack, which resulted in eight stolen bases, including multiple swipes by Kailyn Hanni and Saylor Liggatt.

Silver Lake's Riley Mohler was dominant in the circle, shutting out the Trojans on just four hits over seven innings. She struck out four and walked only one.

Vada Durfee led Southeast of Saline at the plate, going 2-for-3, but the Trojans couldn't generate any sustained offensive momentum against Mohler.

The Eagles showed patience throughout, drawing five walks. Heiman and Audrey Kirk each drove in a run, while Liggatt paced the offense with two hits in two at-bats. Taylor Swygert reached base twice via the walk.

Despite the loss, the Trojans cap their season with silver at the State Tournament.
