City of Salina Responds to Rumors About Storm Cleanup Priorities
The City of Salina issued a statement addressing what it called inaccurate rumors that city resources were being diverted to clean up Oakdale Park for the Smoky Hill River Festival rather than assisting residents with storm recovery. City officials said the only crews working in the park have been Parks and Recreation staff, Salina Arts and Humanities personnel, volunteers, and local businesses. The city stated that the Streets Department and Public Works had not been assigned to park cleanup, and that no Saline County resources were used in the effort.
According to the city, the top priority has been restoring power across Salina. Evergy and visiting utility crews have been leading power restoration efforts around the clock. The City of Salina Public Works Department announced it will begin citywide limb pickup on Monday, June 15. The Salina Municipal Landfill is also now accepting residential tree limbs.
The statement acknowledged community frustrations related to the pace of recovery and urged residents to rely on verified information. City officials thanked Evergy, contracted crews, city employees, volunteers, and residents who have assisted neighbors during the recovery period.
