Salina Fire Department Launches Fireworks Disposal Bucket Program
The Salina Fire Department has introduced the Salina Fireworks Bucket Brigade, a community safety program aimed at reducing fire risks during the Fourth of July season. The department collected 800 five-gallon buckets through partnerships with local and national businesses and affixed decals with disposal instructions to each one.
The program instructs residents to place spent fireworks in a bucket, fill it with water, allow the contents to soak overnight, and dispose of the material the following day. According to the department, the practice is intended to prevent fires caused by improperly discarded fireworks.
The buckets are available at no cost at fireworks tents within Salina city limits, limited to one per household while supplies last. A smaller number of buckets are also available at each of the city's four fire stations.
Salina Blue LLC donated the decals for the program. Buckets were donated by Lowe's, Tractor Supply, Sherwin-Williams, Walmart, Atwoods, Target, and Bomgaars.
