Cow In Roadway Leads To Three-Vehicle Injury Crash On I-70 in Salina
A cow in the roadway led to a three-vehicle injury crash Wednesday on I-70 in Saline County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 11:53 a.m. July 2 on eastbound I-70 near milepost 248.4, about 1.6 miles west of Halstead Road.
Investigators said all three vehicles were eastbound in the left lane when a cow stepped into the roadway. A 2015 Ford F-350 stopped for the cow, and a 2025 Kia Telluride struck the back of the Ford. A second 2015 Ford F-350 then struck the back of the Kia.
The driver of the Kia, 65-year-old Annette Marie Overlease of Ness City, was taken to Salina Regional Health Center with suspected minor injuries.
The driver of the first Ford, 23-year-old Colton Todd Neitzel of Saint Francis, and his passenger, 19-year-old William Dale Jasper of Jones, Oklahoma, were reported with no apparent injuries. The Kia passenger, 17-year-old Ashtyn Jo Overlease of Spalding, Alabama, also was reported with no apparent injuries. The driver of the second Ford, 19-year-old Ethan Jeffrey Fisher of Topeka, was reported with no apparent injuries.
All listed drivers and passengers were wearing safety restraints, according to the report. The crash was investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
