Sponsored: Vanier Campaign Says Kansas Must Demand Better Education Results
Jay Vanier, Republican candidate for Kansas House District 71, says Kansas should not accept falling education results as the new normal.
Vanier’s campaign is pointing to fourth-grade reading and math rankings as a major reason he believes Kansas needs a new direction in Topeka. According to campaign materials, Kansas fourth-grade reading dropped from a national ranking of No. 22 in 2013 to No. 36 in 2024. Fourth-grade math dropped from No. 10 in 2013 to No. 31 in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Vanier campaign says Mississippi saw major gains during that same period, moving from No. 49 to No. 9 in fourth-grade reading and from No. 50 to No. 16 in fourth-grade math. Vanier says Kansas should take the issue seriously and pursue a Literacy-Based Promotion Act.
“Kansas students deserve better than excuses,” the campaign message states. “Reading is not optional. It is the foundation for every subject, every job, and every opportunity that comes after.”
Vanier’s campaign says the education issue is part of a broader platform focused on property tax reform, improved education results, and cutting regulation. His campaign slogan is “Lower Taxes. Bigger Paychecks.”
Vanier is running in the 2026 Republican Primary for Kansas House District 71, which includes Saline County. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.
