Security Camera Installed at Hawthorne Spray Pad, New Scoreboard at Mattson Field
Salina Parks and Recreation staff outlined several facility maintenance projects during the Aug. 19 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.
Staff reported installing a security camera at the Hawthorne Park spray pad in response to behavior described as "not healthy." Staff said they intend to add cameras at other splash pads but noted challenges finding mounting locations high enough to prevent damage or removal.
At Mattson Field, staff said a new scoreboard was ordered and hung, replacing a scoreboard that was more than 30 years old and had previously been used at Dean Evans Stadium. According to staff member Travis, the older scoreboard was transferred to Mattson when Dean Evans was upgraded and had "served its purpose." Staff said they were awaiting an electrician to wire the new scoreboard and that dugout improvements at Mattson Field, previously handled with a temporary solution, would be finished this fall by the facility maintenance crew.
Staff also reported the maintenance crew was continuing work on a police station remodel. In addition, crews continued a program of spraying out and reseeding outfield grass at Bill Burke, replacing encroaching Bermuda grass with fescue. Staff said this was the third fall of the effort, with fields one, three and seven treated this year, and described the results as successful.
