Five projects ranging from a major Central Mall redevelopment to European manufacturing and an Israeli agricultural technology company are currently listed on the Salina Area Economic Development Organization's prospect table.

The information is contained in the EDO's Aug. 20 board packet, which provides a look at companies and development projects currently being pursued or tracked by the organization.

The five projects are identified primarily by code names, and several remain in relatively early stages.

Project Destination Salina — $146 Million

The largest project currently listed is Project Destination Salina, the proposed redevelopment associated with the Central Mall property.

The EDO lists the project at approximately $146 million in capital investment.

The project is associated with a proposed STAR Bond development and has remained on the EDO's prospect list as work continues on the potential redevelopment.

Project Claw — $40 Million, 90 Jobs

Project Claw represents one of the largest current industrial recruitment opportunities on the EDO list.

The prospect is described as a European-based company manufacturing products for the construction industry.

The EDO lists:

90 potential jobs

Approximately $40 million in capital investment

A need for approximately 25 acres

According to the August prospect table, Salina submitted information for the project in June.

The company is evaluating Salina alongside other potential locations.

Project Powder — Wheat Straw Manufacturing

Another active prospect, Project Powder, involves a Wyoming-based company considering Salina for a manufacturing operation using an agricultural product readily available across Kansas.

The company would use wheat straw to produce filler material for plastics.

The EDO lists the potential operation at:

15 jobs

Approximately $2.5 million in investment

Approximately 50,000 square feet of leased space

The project could create an additional industrial use for an agricultural byproduct produced throughout the region.

Project Precision — Israeli Agricultural Technology Company

Project Precision involves an Israel-based agricultural technology company considering Salina for its U.S. headquarters.

According to the EDO prospect table, the company manufactures agricultural sensors.

The project would begin with approximately five employees and include assembly operations.

Although considerably smaller than Project Claw or Destination Salina in its initial employment numbers, the project represents a potential international technology recruitment for Salina.

The August packet does not identify the company by name.

Project North Track — Delayed Until 2027

The oldest project currently appearing on the table is Project North Track, which dates to 2021.

Unlike the other recruitment prospects, North Track involves an existing Salina company.

The project concerns development of a testing area associated with the company's operations.

According to the August table, the project has been delayed until 2027.

Current Pipeline Represents Different Types of Growth

The five projects illustrate several different components of Salina's current economic-development efforts.

Destination Salina represents large-scale commercial redevelopment. Project Claw is an international industrial recruitment prospect. Project Powder combines manufacturing with Kansas agriculture. Project Precision would bring an international agricultural technology company to Salina, while North Track involves expansion infrastructure for an existing local company.

Based on the investment figures disclosed by the EDO, projects for which dollar amounts are provided represent at least $188.5 million in potential investment.

That figure should not be interpreted as committed investment. The projects remain in varying stages, and inclusion on the prospect table does not mean a company has selected Salina or that the investment and employment projections will ultimately occur.

The EDO's prospect information provides a snapshot of projects being actively tracked as Salina competes for new development and works with existing businesses.
