Salina Hauled Away 10,518 Tons of Your Trees. As of This Week, It's Finished.

Nearly three months after the June 8 windstorm left neighborhoods across Salina covered in downed limbs and piles of debris, the citywide residential cleanup is officially complete.

City crews hauled more than 4,500 dump-truck loads of limbs during the response, while the Salina Municipal Landfill received more than 10,518 tons of yard-waste debris.

For residents who spent much of the summer watching branch piles disappear one neighborhood at a time, the numbers show just how large the cleanup effort became.

The city began the special residential pickup in mid-June and worked through Salina zone by zone, focusing first on areas with the heaviest storm damage.

Now, that large-scale operation has come to an end.

The completion means crews are finished with the special residential curbside pickup. Debris on private streets, in alleys and on commercial property remains the responsibility of the property owner.

The cleanup was a long one, involving weeks of loaders, chainsaws, trucks and city employees moving through neighborhood after neighborhood.

But after a summer defined in part by piles of broken trees sitting along Salina streets, one of the final reminders of the June storm is finally gone.
