Suspect in Fatal Great Bend Shooting Located, Arrested in Salina

A 19-year-old man suspected in a fatal shooting in Great Bend was located and taken into custody in Salina Saturday, according to the Great Bend Police Department.

Great Bend police said officers were dispatched at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, to the 1400 block of Lakin Avenue after receiving a 911 hang-up call.

When officers arrived, they were told someone had been shot in a backyard. Officers located a female victim who was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

During the investigation, police identified 19-year-old Keegan Martens as the suspect. Authorities said Martens had left the scene before officers arrived.

Martens was later located in Salina and taken into custody. He was subsequently transported to the Barton County Jail, where Great Bend police said he remained in custody Saturday.

The Great Bend Police Department said the Barton County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Salina Police Department assisted with the investigation.

Authorities have not released additional information about where Martens was located in Salina or the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing.
