Gary Norris Takes Seat on Salina City Commission After Unanimous Vote
Gary Norris was formally appointed and sworn in Monday as Salina’s newest city commissioner, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former Commissioner Jerry Ivey.
Commissioners considered Resolution No. 26-8369, formally documenting the appointment following the commission’s previous selection of Norris.
City staff explained that the resolution did not change the commission’s earlier decision but created the official record of the appointment and established details including the term of the vacancy.
The commission approved Norris’ appointment 4-0.
Following the vote, Norris stepped to the front of the commission chambers and took the oath of office, swearing to support the U.S. Constitution and Kansas Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of a Salina city commissioner.
“Welcome aboard, Commissioner Norris,” Mayor Mike Hoppock said following the oath.
Norris then took his seat on the commission and participated in the remainder of Monday’s meeting, which included the public hearing and consideration of Salina’s 2027 budget.
