Officers Intervene After Man Found Standing In Roadway With Knife

Salina Police responded to a welfare-related incident Tuesday morning after reports of a man screaming and striking objects in the 700 block of N. Broadway.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on Sept. 15, officers arrived in the area and located a 50-year-old man standing in the roadway attempting to stab himself in the stomach with a large knife. According to police, the man appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.

Officers were able to de-escalate the situation, convince the man to drop the knife, and take him into custody without further incident.

The man was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, where he was admitted for treatment.
