Aero Plains Homes: Upgraded drainage kept AeroPlains dry through last week's heavy rain
Aero Plains Homes said last week's significant rainfall put Salina streets, storm drains, and drainage systems to the test, and that AeroPlains handled the water as intended.
According to the developers, streets drained, water moved where it was supposed to go, and homes remained dry. An intersection that briefly held water during heavy rain in May had no standing water at all this time.
They said the May issue was relatively simple: a drain farther down the line became blocked, temporarily causing water to collect at the intersection. No homes received water, and no homes were in danger. The City of Salina cleared the obstruction, and the intersection quickly drained.
Rather than stop there, the developers said they upgraded the drainage connection at their own expense to help prevent a similar blockage. They described it as an investment most people never see, but one that good communities are often built on.
This week's rainfall, they said, showed why those upgrades matter. The improved drainage performed as intended. While many streets and intersections in Salina held water for a time, no pooling occurred at that intersection, and there were no water problems elsewhere in AeroPlains.
Aero Plains Homes said the episode reflects the larger philosophy behind the development: bringing high-quality, energy-efficient, and attainable new homes to Salina means investing in streets and infrastructure, listening when questions are raised, and taking action when there is a chance to make something better.
No new neighborhood is built without challenges, they said. What matters is how those challenges are handled. In this case, the city responded quickly, the developers invested in an additional improvement, and when another round of heavy rain arrived, the system performed.
The developers said they have included many additional thoughtful details aimed at quality, efficiency, amenities, and affordability. Open houses at AeroPlains are held every Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., with all three floor plans set up as model homes.
