Salina South freshman Sophia Li places sixth at 5A state tennis
Salina South freshman Sophia Li finished sixth at the 2026 Class 5A state girls tennis tournament, according to the Salina South Lady Cougar Tennis Facebook page.
The team said it was proud of her performance and grit at state and that it sees big things ahead for her.
The state finish caps a freshman season in which Li also won the AVCTL Division 1 girls singles league championship. As Salina311 reported, she swept her three league matches 6-0, 6-0 to become the Cougars’ first girls singles league champion since 2011.
Li took a 20-3 record into regionals in Andover. Her only losses to that point came against the 2025 Class 5A state runner-up and twice against the 2025 Class 4A state runner-up, and she had finished first or second in every meet of the season.
