A 28-year-old Salina man was arrested after a man was stabbed multiple times at his home in east Salina, the Salina Police Department said Saturday.
On Friday, Oct. 30, officers responded to Salina Regional Health Center after a man who had been stabbed was brought into the emergency room lobby, according to a police department media release. Police said the 36-year-old Salina man had been stabbed multiple times at his residence in eastern Salina.
He was taken to a hospital in Wichita, where he was in stable condition as of Saturday morning, police said. Police did not release his name.
A second man, who tried to separate the victim and the suspect, was also cut, police said. He was not hospitalized.
Police said officers identified a suspect and found him at a home in south Salina, where he was arrested without incident. Police identified him as Daireese M. Gelinas, 28, of Salina.
According to the police release, Gelinas was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. Police said the case remains under investigation and that the charges could change.
Saline County Sheriff's Office booking records list four charges for Gelinas: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; aggravated battery, knowingly using a deadly weapon; second-degree murder, intentional; and an outside warrant. The booking records list the second-degree murder count without the word "attempted," which police used in their release. No one has been reported killed.
The booking records list Gelinas' status as "confined but not convicted." No bond amount or court case number was listed as of Saturday afternoon. The records do not say which agency issued the outside warrant or what it is for.
Booking charges are not formal charges. The Saline County Attorney's Office decides whether to file criminal charges and which ones. Gelinas is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Police did not say what led to the stabbing or whether the men knew one another.
