Salina Human Relations Commission to discuss civil rights outreach plans for 2027
The Salina Human Relations Commission will hold a study session Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 5:45 p.m. to discuss previous and future community relations outreach efforts.
On Sept. 8, the commission passed a motion to hold a study session on what outreach activities to pursue in 2027, with the goal of increasing awareness of civil rights issues and encouraging people to use the services of the city's Community Relations Division.
The division is a civil rights enforcement agency for the City of Salina. It investigates complaints of discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodation and operates a Fair Housing Assistance Program through an agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
A staff report from Marissa Patton, community relations specialist, lists past outreach activities, including an annual Fair Housing Seminar held each April since 2008, diversity presentations to local schools and organizations, and a 2019 Housing Summit that brought together local housing resource providers.
