Salina City Commission Holds Closed Session on Cozy Inn Lawsuit
The Salina City Commission met in a special session on July 15, 2026, primarily to discuss ongoing litigation in a closed executive session.
The commission voted to recess into executive session for 60 minutes to consult with special legal counsel regarding "the subject of legal considerations relating to the cozyen versus city of Salina case," according to the motion read at the meeting. The session was called "based upon the need for consultation with an attorney for the public body which would be deemed privileged in the attorney client relationship," citing Kansas statute KSA 75-4319(b)(2).
Attendees for the executive session included Development Services Director Lauren Driscoll, Deputy City Manager Shawn Henessee, City Attorney Patrick Hoffman, and special legal counsel Todd Messenger, along with the commissioners.
Two commissioners participated in the meeting remotely via Zoom. When the commission returned to open session, it took no reported public action and voted to adjourn. No details of the closed-door discussion were disclosed publicly.
