UPDATE: Saline County restores original Saturday advance voting hours
SALINA, Kan. — Advance voting in Saline County will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, as originally scheduled, the Saline County Clerk's Office announced Thursday.
The county had shortened Saturday's hours to 8 a.m. to noon in a release Wednesday, citing President Donald Trump's planned rally at Salina Regional Airport the same day.
Enhanced security has been arranged at the early voting site in the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash St., according to the county. Working with the Saline County Sheriff's Office and the Saline County Commission, the county secured additional security resources, allowing Saturday voting to proceed as originally planned, according to a county media release.
"Our responsibility is to provide a safe and secure environment for everyone participating in the election process," Saline County Clerk and Election Officer Tammy Arnold said in the release. "With the anticipated crowds and demands on law enforcement we reduced hours out of an abundance of caution. Getting the extra security we felt was needed, we can move forward as originally planned."
The county's release, issued at 10:59 a.m. Thursday, described the rally as still scheduled for Saturday morning. Salina311 reported earlier Thursday that the rally had been canceled, which Pieter Miller, executive director of the Salina Airport Authority, confirmed to Salina311.
Salina311 reached out to the Saline County Clerk's Office for information on whether the reported cancellation affects advance voting plans.
